No web browser on your TV?
Some TVs and streaming boxes can't open websites. That's fine. You can still use SayImpromptu, you just need something with a browser to drive the TV.
Which TVs can't?
Chromecast, Google TV, Apple TV and Roku don't have a normal web browser. Many smart TVs that run Google TV or Roku built in are the same.
Samsung and LG smart TVs usually do have one, and so does an Amazon Fire TV stick once you install the free Silk browser. See Set up your TV.
Easiest fix: a laptop and an HDMI cable
- Plug any laptop into the TV with an HDMI cable (you may need an adapter for newer laptops).
- On the laptop, open sayimpromptu.com/tv and make it full screen.
- Scan the code with your phone as usual.
This is the most common church setup and the most reliable. A clicker plugged into the laptop works even when your phone is locked.
Cast it from a laptop (Chromecast / Google TV)
- On a laptop on the same Wi-Fi, open sayimpromptu.com/tv in Chrome.
- Open Chrome's menu (⋮), choose Cast…, then pick your TV and choose Cast tab.
Casting adds a small delay and can stutter on busy Wi-Fi. If the scrolling isn't smooth, use an HDMI cable instead.
AirPlay from a Mac (Apple TV)
- On the Mac, open sayimpromptu.com/tv.
- Open Control Center → Screen Mirroring and choose your Apple TV.
Other options
- An Amazon Fire TV stick (about the price of a nice lunch) plugged into the TV, with the free Silk browser.
- A tablet or old laptop as a smaller confidence screen on a stand.
- Any computer monitor with a small PC behind it.
